Fearnoch Forest Map 4 – Lorne Forest District
The map was recovered from a shed at Newton which acted as a storage area for Forest Research who used the maps to locate forest and tree experiments in the field.
This area annotated as Comparment 2401 – 2447 lies on the south side of Glen Feochan and was planted up in the period 1977-1982. Again there are substantial areas of Sitka spruce interspersed with areas of larch and lodgepole pine plus some areas of broadleaves left on the stream sides. The map was last updated in 1991.
Records show that Fearnoch was combined with Raera Forest in 1978 and that the total area of the Forestry Commission land holding in Fearnoch was then over 6000ha. It does not appear that this additional area is represented in the four maps retrieved from the store.
Any details on this forest area and its forest staff would be very welcome.
