The map was recovered from shed at Newton which acted as a storage area for Forest Research who used the maps to locate forest and tree experiments in the field.

Details of this area or not known but much of the area shown would have formed part of the Forestry Commission Forest of Dallas in 1948 (managed by Forester W S Douglas)but may have been part of Newtyle Forest previously. Any information would be very welcome. The areas include the Hill of Wangie, Hillockhead plus other smaller areas. Earliest plantings are shown as 1933 with a mix of ages up to areas planted in 1978.

Dallas Forest was amalgamated with Newtyle Forest (managed by Forester P Stewart) in 1958/59 and then Newtyle was incorporated into Monaughty Forest in 1968/59. Following this in 1971/72 a larger Chief Forester unit was created by joining up the Forests of Culbin, Monaughty , Newton and Roseisle and may have been managed by Struan Stewart.
