The map was recovered from shed at Newton that acted as a storage area for Forest Research who used the maps to locate forest and tree experiments in the field.

The land was acquired in 1954 from Kinclohmoidart Estate but planting did not begin until 1964 in Brunery and Drynie. The more difficult and much steeper Ardmolich Wood was not planted until 1966 and later with perhaps some higher elevation planting as late as 1983. This was one of the early acquisition areas that formed part of Sunart Forest.

Since the map was last updated in 1985 Drynie wood was sold to the Highland Council for a deferred road replacement scheme, Brunery Wood has been sold also and Ardmolich Wood is now clear felled. A car park and walk from Ardmolich links into the striking Silver Walk around the coast from Shiel Foot and Castle Tioram.
