Finger ring – string cutter for forest nursery work

“These are pictures of the replacement string cutter and a special easy open knot for used when planting. We were always losing knives at Arnott’s nursery Lownie, Forfar in the early 1960’s. High speed tying was normally undertaken by two apprentices of usually 2+2 spruce plant bundles. These bundles consisted of 50 plants, tied with thin binder twine ending in a special loop knot that was easily opened by hand at the planting end . No knife needed. The ring cutter worn on your finger was a great success. No idea who thought of it at the time”.
