Date Added: 13 December 2024 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1952 Picture No: 6025

The photograph is courtesy of Jim Millar, Banbury who attended Benmore from 1952 – 1954.

This snap shot taken at a meal break is of five forestry students who had been planting trees on a new site or possibly on a long since felled site. Jim has named the students as:
Willie Patience (far bottom left)
Frank Marks (near front left)
Ernie Clark (far centre)
Jim Millar (near centre)
Frank Cameron (top right)

The planting spade with the wooden D handle has a straight shaft and is most likely a Schlich spade with a pointed blade designed to go straight into the ground and levered back and fore to create a planting hole for the young tree.

Any details of the onward careers of the students would be very welcome.
