Clearing of non native conifers in Glenmore - south side of Loch Morlich

This is an aerial view of part of the area south of Loch Morlich being cleared. The image was taken in 1993 by ‘Flying Cameras’ based in Aviemore. It was said that a variety of felling techniques were used on this extensive site before a shortwood system utilising timber harvesters became the norm. In fact in the image two systems appear to be in progress. On the lower half of the site manually felled trees can be seen bunched together and yet to be extracted. On the top half of the site, on left side, rows of processed logs are lined up in narrow felling strips. They appear to be quite narrow felling strips by today’s standard. Any ideas on the type of machine that worked here would be very welcome.
