The map was recovered from a shed at Newton Nursery which acted as a storage area for Forest Research who used the maps to locate forest and tree experiments in the field. This map may have been surveyed circa 1980 but has been updated to 1991.

These two eastern outliers of Balcaldine Forest may have been part of a larger acquisition of hill land in the later 1960s and some of the upper hill land subsequently sold on. A small boundary anomaly shows up as part Compartment 1141 where two adjoining large area acquisition boundaries did not quite match.

The species named is mainly Sitka spruce with early plantings from 1970 through to 1974 and then some replanting in the1980s. There are substantial ok oak and birch woodlands noted and also some areas damaged by hill fires and annotated as burnt (Compartments 1514 & 1516). There are also some failed areas noted which indicates that the ground conditions may less than ideal for spruce.
