Autumn colours around Cannich Village in 1977
The photograph was taken by the late Finlay MacRae who was a District Officer in the Forestry Commission based in Dingwall at this time. The images are courtesy of his daughter Donna.
Cannich village was the base for the Forestry Commission in the Affric and Guisachan Forest areas. It appears that following amalgamation of the Glen Affric and Guisachan Forests the central office was the former camp used by the Hydro scheme builders. The camp included a bothy used by mobile forest workers such as plough operators, road squad workers and even trainee wildlife rangers.
Any details of the previous office locations and also details and stories of the Cannich Camp would be very welcome.
