Welding Begg plough at Torlundy – Leanachan Forest - Circa 1960
The photograph was taken by the late Finlay MacRae who was a District Officer in the Forestry Commission based in Lochaber at the time. The images are courtesy of his daughter Donna.
This old Begg plough featured here is also shown in Picture No 2229 and this image is around 6 years later. One wonders that a +10 year old plough is being readied for action when more modern ones were by this time widely available.
On the other side of the welder are a pair of large iron drum wheels lying on their sides. These look similar to Cuthbertson plough wheels.
It is very difficult to identify the welding mechanic with face covered by shield mask. He does have the build and pate of Tommy Cameron who was later the foreman mechanic at the Forestry Commission workshop at Torlundy.
The building behind may be the forest and district office later to be converted to the workshop when new offices were built around 1966 a little way up from this location.
