Extraction machines at Ardross Forest – old and new style circa 1978

The photograph was taken by the late Finlay MacRae who was a District Officer in the Forestry Commission based in Dingwall at the time. The images are courtesy of his daughter Donna.

The Bruunett 578F lightweight eight wheel forwarder is an indicator of new shortwood harvesting technique taking place at Ardross Forest. The Highlander style skidder behind is the symbol of the former harvesting process of felling and extracting the trees in the length.

The driver is not visible in this view unfortunately but the FC number and noted in other images is FC 78430. It is possible this machine was on temporary loan from another forest or it may have been an Ardross based machine and driver. Can anyone confirm and name the driver?

See PDF link below for another partial view of Bruunett and harvesting site and Forest Worker or fleer on the site above the machine.
