Skidding clear felled pine in Ardross Forest circa late 1970s

Skidding clear felled pine in Ardross Forest circa late 1970s

Date Added: 20 August 2024 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1978 Picture No: 5905

The photograph was taken by the late Finlay MacRae who was a District Officer in the Forestry Commission based in Dingwall at the time. The images are courtesy of his daughter Donna.

Date and site of the operation is not known or the identity of the man watching the operation. The skidder may be a James Jones crafted Highlander but perhaps someone will be able to identify.

At this time Donnie Laird was head Forester at Ardross and Tom MacGregor may have been a forester based at Morangie.
Any more details would be very welcome.

It looks like a Falstone skidder, the same one as in Picture 5908. Regards Ian
