Morish Mor, Tain - Sand dunes thatched and planted
The photograph was taken by the late Finlay MacRae who was a District Officer in the Forestry Commission based in Dingwall at the time. The images are courtesy of his daughter Donna.
Yet another forest area (part of Ardross Forest) where sand dune stabilisation techniques were used to establish a forest. Evidence of thatching brash can be seem amongst the young pine trees as also in the PDF link below the remains of slatted fence walls to stabilise the most vulnerable areas likely to be prone to sand blow outs in the early planting stages. The images in the PDF below show the extensive dune system which is actually quite close to a RAF bombing practise range. The view is to the north looking towards Golspie and Sutherland hills.
