Single Furrow Clark tine plough – early winch cable lifting model
The image is courtesy of Douglas Clark of Parkgate and shows his team’s skill in the restoration of this 1950s era tine plough and beam. The plough will be going on display outside the Parkgate factory in time for the company’s centenary events later this year. After this the plough will join the other restored models at Duncow Estate.
Douglas comments:
‘I never witnessed a wire rope / winch plough working and I think this might be the only example left. For a long time during the 60s the ploughs had both wire rope pulleys and hydraulics but, I think, in the late 60s it was only a hydraulic cylinder for lifting the plough. This plough is wire rope operated only and as you correctly say the carriage wheels face the opposite way from the later hydraulic versions. I don’t know if you can see from the photo but the carriage frame legs are made from two channels welded together to create a box. I guess this is before box section was made.
This is a single throw tine mouldboard, I don’t think the photo shows that so well, it was a very early model before Donald Thomson came up with all the mouldboard nomenclature to describe them. Using Donald’s numbers I guess it’s a S30/T45.’
