Slasher Magazine Summary: Publication No. 232 - April 1967
The digitisation of the Slasher was undertaken by, and images courtesy of, the Forest Research Knowledge and Information Management staff based at both the Northern Research Station in Roslin, Scotland and Alice Holt in Surrey, where the original copies are currently located.

Torrey Canyon
Some details of the help offered and provided by the Forestry Commission after the oil tanker Torrey Canyon ran aground on the rocks off the Scillies. The co-ordinator was Mr C.A. Connell, Conservator, South West England.
Obituary
Mr James Chrystall, District Office Officer, East Scotland Conservancy, has died aged 53 years.
Skye Ceremony
Mr Hamish Maxwell, Conservator, North Scotland, recently took part in a unique ceremony in the remote crofting village of Claigan on the Island of Skye, a few miles north of Dunvegan Castle.
The ceremony was to mark the beginning of a scheme, which it is hoped, will result in more croft land becoming available for forestry and it was devised by the Chairman of the Crofters Commission in close association with the Forestry Commission.
It is an arrangement whereby we may purchase parts of common grazings, paying market value for vacant possession, but part of the price normally paid to the owner will be transferred to a Development Fund administered by the Crofters Commission. This fund will be used for improvements on the Township which gave up the land.
Details are given of the ceremony which took place in the crowded sitting room of a small croft house in Claigan.
Retirements
Mr Charley Adams, Forester, Wales, one of the Adams family of foresters has retired.
Mr R.F. Lawes, Forester, Bere Forest has retired after serving the Commission for 43 years.

Export Drive Aid
70-80 acres of standing birch at Bedgebury Forest, Kent and Brightling Forest, Sussex has been sold to Kent Woodware Ltd. of Hawkhurst. At least half of the birch poles were exported to Malta where they were made into brushes for sale in North Africa.
Caring for the Horses
A horseback forest patrol has been introduced by the R.S.P.C.A. by arrangement with the North Wales Conservancy, following complaints alleging the maltreatment of horses engaged on timber hauling.
Springtail Tailpiece
Mr E.G. Hollowell, Head Forester, Slebech Nursery, South Wales, writes about the article on Springtails in the December issue of The Slasher. He encountered the Springtail in the Spring of 1960, when in conjunction with a plague of flea-beetles, they began a massive attack on H.L. and N.F. seedlings. With the help of Ganger Bill Roblin and Forester L.S. Tayler, it was ascertained the Springtail was the main source of trouble. As they are immune to D.D.T., Malathion was used to eliminate them.

A reunion is planned for all 1962-64 Benmore Forester Training School students.
Basingstoke Lead the Way
Sylvatica, the Basingstoke Sports and Social Club of the new Headquarters office entered two teams in the district table tennis league and finished the season with the second team gaining promotion from the 4th to the 3rd division and the first team winning the championship of the second division. In the "A" team are R.E. Chappell; P.J. Birkett; N.T. Hall. In the "B" team are A.S. Lee; D.J. Goddard; I.S. Hatton.
R.E. Chappell, the Sylvatica team captain, overcame all opposition to take the intermediate singles trophy in the closed championships of Basingstoke and District table tennis league.
