DJS Enviro – Mounder on site in North Aberdeenshire
Unfortunately the machine was not seen in action but had completed a very tidy mounding job on several grazed fields. It has a very elegant design (by B J Keen?) and is also capable of specific blade drag action and soil drop placement simulating spaced scarifying with a mound of soil at the end of the short scrape. It seems that a double row version is also manufactured by the company DJS (Borders) Ltd of St Boswells. This mounder was pulled by a low ground pressure Mach 4 Antonia Carraro tractor with four sets of rubber tracks in place of the wheels.
In conversation with the tree planters on site they were very happy with the planting sites produced. In this case broadleaves were placed in the shallow pit next to the hinge of the turf.
It was very heart warming to see a Borders designed and manufactured cultivation machine. Perhaps a follow on from those early forestry machine pioneers of the past in south Scotland with illustrious engineering names that include Cuthbertson, Begg and Clark.
