Brian writes:

‘Allan completed 48 years of service with Scottish State Forestry and was presented with the Imperial Conduct Medal by Graeme Prest Director of Land Management and Regions, Forestry and Land Scotland, on Friday 8th December.

Allan joined the Forestry Commission, aged 17, in 1974 working at Strathmashie Forest then headed by Jim Ogilvie. Allan was the youngest person in the squad all involved in weeding and planting. He transferred to Glenmore around 1986 and has been there ever since. Initially he was involved with tree felling and then in 1988 moved over to undertake maintenance at the campsite and worked in the old Visitor Centre.

In the mid 90’s he started working full time in the current Visitor Centre and the accompanying shop and has remained working there seeing many changes and developments throughout the years. Allan has welcomed thousands of visitors to Glenmore and helped them to make the most of their visit. There is nothing that Allan doesn’t know about Glenmore and he leaves behind a huge legacy and boots that will not be easily filled.’
