Mixed species planting in Glengarry Forest circa 1986
The image was provided by Alan Stevenson and formed part of a paper written by Alan Stevenson and Alan Mackay in 1991 titled Forestry in the Highland Region. The paper is available on Forestry Memories Picture No 5720.
Not easily seen but the trees planted are a mix of three Sitka spruce and three Alaskan lodgepole pine in the row. The species groups are in turn staggered across the rows with each pine group adjacent to the spruce group thus maximising the nursing effect of the former on the latter.
