Celebrating 100 years of State ownership in Glenmore Forest

The Forestry Commission bought 12,500 acres of Glenmore from the Duke of Richmond and Gordon on 12th November 1923 due to in the main to death duties. This area was amongst the early land purchases by the Forestry Commission. Part of the obligation of the sale was the requirement to look after the sheep stock. The sporting value was stated as 5% of the purchase price (£900). Also in the Title deeds was the right to use the sluice at Loch Morlich to float timber. The area of standing trees left by the Canadian Forestry Corps after 1945 amounted to 80ha.
