This Information sign along with quite number of others was mounted informally on the inside wall of a management shed in Newton Nursery. These obsolete signs had been removed from the various forest locations and perhaps used to brighten up an otherwise dull wooden wall. The colours have faded somewhat and the shed roof lights have added another colour variation.

The vast majority of Forestry Commission and Forest Enterprise signs were drawn up by Forest Design and Interpretation Services based in Silvan House, Corstorphine Road, Edinburgh. This one was produced in 2001 and highlights the passage of time, the past discovery of fossilised remains of Elginia, an early reptile, in the local quarry and also the way marked trail. The sign also emphasises that this is now a Community Woodland managed in partnership with Quarrelwood Woodland Park Association comprised of Moray Council, Elgin Community Members, Forest Enterprise & Scottish Natural Heritage.
