A 1964 Fordson Major, with Igland 3000 double drum winch and forestry guarding, apparently fitted by James Jones of Larbert, Stirlingshire.
This skidder has been languishing next to the entrance to the now collapsed steamer landing pier at Aros, Mull, Argyll, for many years. When I was last on Mull in March 2022, it had been given some floral paintwork and hanging baskets, but remained in a derelict state.
I suspect that it was used for first thinnings on the island, possibly when the sawmill was in operation down at Pennyghael, on the Ross of Mull.
Attached to this image is a pdf file, comprising two images. One is an overall view of the rear of the skidder and the second, a close-up image of the James Jones information plate, giving details of the Igland winch.
If anybody has more detailed knowledge of the skidders history and potential future, it would be good to read of it.

Shame to see it in such a state. Comment left on 03 March 2023 at 16:40 by Leslie Phillip
Looks like a new performance super major one of the last of the Fordson type. That Igland 3000 winch must be rare - worked with the 2000 and 4000 back in the day on Panmure Estate. Comment left on 10 March 2023 at 14:32 by Leslie Phillip
