A short report that I produced for FDM Finlay MacCrae, Easter Ross Forest District, Dingwall, after using the Muskeg mounted foam unit held at the Longman Depot, to control a hill fire in Slattadale Forest, whilst I was a Forester in Torrachilty Forest in 1984.

Slattadale and Lael Forests at that time were single charge forests, run by Steve Smith and Frank Thom respectively and we provided clerical support for pay etc. When either Forester IC was on leave then either myself or Jim Colling were despatched to check on the day to day running, until the Forester IC returned from leave.

I think that by this time, April 1984, the new Forest District structure was just coming into being and Steve Smith had already moved on to a Work Study role based at Culloden Office. Hence my involvement in the fire fighting and taking along the squads from Torrachilty.

George (Dod) MacLeman was the driver on the day. An image of the Muskeg and the foam unit, with Dod, can be found on the database as image #1682.

The full report, with a forwarding memo from Finlay to Mr A. M. Calder (Sandy) is attached as an OCR pdf that can be searched if required.
