James Fraser memorial – Black Isle on Munlochy to Culbokie Road near to television mast
These documents were passed on from the family of Tom A Robbie who was the Forestry Training School principal at Glentress 1947-1953 and also at Faskally 1953-1955 and thereafter in Conservancy appointments in Scotland. The items were brought to the attention of Forestry Memories by Mairi McGeachy, Business Support Manager, Aberfoyle Office.
A circular was sent out to all contributors to a memorial for James Fraser, Conservator of North Scotland Conservancy, who retired in 1956 but died very shortly after. His connection to the north went as far back as 1920 when he was the principal Instructor in charge of the Beaufort Forester Training School.
The memorial bronze plaque on the boulder on the Mt Eagle Road reads;
‘In tribute to James Fraser – Conservator of Forests Forestry Commission – who between the years 1924 and 1956 established many of the forests visible from this site and others far beyond’
