The letter contents indicate that Sandy was a regular in the local Territorial Force with over 14 years service and achieved the rank of corporal in the 6th Bat The Seaforth Highlander T F. William Reid in his capacity as Lt Col 6th Seaforth Highlanders TF recommends Sandy for a vacancy in the council Lands and Parks unit in Elgin.

It appears that Sandy may have not been successful in his application and war was shortly to intervene when he was called up and served 6 years as a Sergeant Major in the Seaforth Highlanders serving with distinction in Dunkirk, El-Alamein, Anzio and the Elbe.
