Unknown group and location – possible forestry training course - Morayshire?
The image and the details are courtesy of Michael Lawrence, Bankfoot, who is the grandson of Sandy Rose. There are no details with this image as it was found in the Rose family collection. The year could be as early as 1925.
Michael has noted that No 4 looks like and probably is Charlie Rose one of Willie Rose’s sons. It may be that Charlie was employed as forestry worker somewhere local to his home and attended short forestry courses held in the Darnaway area.
The similar age range and the back ground building may point to some training event for the more able forestry and estate workers seeking to become leading foremen or foresters. In a letter of recommendation concerning Sandy Rose, A E McKenzie indicates that he and Sandy Rose attended Forestry Classes and sat exams at the end of each session which indicates that there was some type of formal forestry training in the area at the time circa 1923-1930. From other sources it appeared that some short forestry courses were held in Darnaway Estate on a number of years but information is sketchy.
