Michael Lawrence in his Grandfather’s FC van
The images are courtesy of Michael Lawrence of Bankfoot whose grandfather, Sandy Rose, was Forester and Head Forester at Ledmore Forest Nursery from Nov 1949 (when land was acquired) until his retirement in 1969. In 1966 the nearby Strathord Forest was brought under his charge.
Michael is happily in situ in the front seat of the Forestry Commission van that his grandfather, Sandy Rose, used for supervision and travelling to sites. It may be a Ford Thames 10cwt van but perhaps experts will confirm and identify the model.
Note the Forestry Commission Scotland decal which has the crown and the diagonal stripes. The numbers most likely refer to the year of purchase, 1954, and the sequence number of vehicles purchased that year in Scotland or GB. Machine number 2252. The indicator arms in their slots can be seen beside Michael’s head.
