Forest Squad at break time on a view point - Perhshire in the 1960s
The images are courtesy of Michael Lawrence of Bankfoot whose grandfather, Sandy Rose, was Forester and Head Forester at Ledmore Forest Nursery from Nov 1949 (when land was acquired) until his retirement in 1969. In 1966 the nearby Strathord Forest was brought under his charge.
No tools are visible but there may be some hessian sacks lying on the ground. The autumn timing and sacks could indicate that some tree cones were being collected for the nursery seed sowing but this is purely guess work.
Mike recognised Eck Ewart on the left wearing the beret and Chalmers Thain (Snr) on the right.
Can anyone identify the other men and the location?
