High level view over Dunkeld and towards Birnam Hill and Wood

Date Added: 15 October 2022 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1966 Picture No: 5480

The images are courtesy of Michael Lawrence of Bankfoot whose grandfather, Sandy Rose, was Forester and Head Forester at Ledmore Forest Nursery from Nov 1949 (when land was acquired) until his retirement in 1969. In 1966 the nearby Strathord Forest was brought under his charge.

The location is believed to be high up on the forest area north of Dunkeld, just above the area marked as Caves. The view is down the River Tay. Two of the young men can be named, Chalmers Thain (Jnr) on the left and Andrew Thain on the right – both workers at Ledmore Nursery and incidentally nephews of Sandy Rose.

Can the young man in the middle be named? Was this a Forestry Commission forest area back in those days?
