Forestry men and Timber Corps women at Lochloy
This photograph is courtesy of John Baillie, Garmouth which shows some of the combined timber working squads of Forestry men and Timber Corps women getting a lift to or from their work site on the rail trailer trucks of the puggy line that ran about 3 miles from a roadside lorry loading bay at Lochloy forest to the coastal area towards the mouth of River Findhorn. Although only about 17 or 18 John was given responsibility for driving the Ruston engine that pulled the five or so trailer trucks and was also part of the team that loaded the timber onto and off them. Note the metal bolster pins to hold the logs on and the long draw bar hitching the two puggy trailer trucks together (allows longer lengths of timber to be stacked onboard).
This photograph shows clearly the type of work clothes, caps and boots used at this time. Less obvious are the piece bags which seem to be ex-army types with webbing straps.
The only people John can now name are the two on the extreme right: Charlie MacHardy (from Elgin) sitting on the corner of the rail truck and Willie Milton (from Deskford) standing.
