Lunch break in Strathord Forest
The images are courtesy of Michael Lawrence of Bankfoot whose grandfather, Sandy Rose, was Forester and Head Forester at Ledmore Forest Nursery from Nov 1949 (when land was acquired) until his retirement in 1969. In 1966 the nearby Strathord Forest was brought under his charge.
The work team in a sunny location are relaxing at their lunch break. The ex army haversacks or piece bags are visible and one of the members is a lady. There are no tools to indicate the work being carried out. The site has been felled quite a number of years previously as shown by the stumps. Two well formed standing larch trees on the edge do have white painted bands around their girth points and may be selected seed trees. The larches still have some old needles on their lower branches and the broadleaves some leaf remnants indicating that this may be late autumn or early winter. Someone may recognise the outline of the hill opposite.
Can any of the team be named?
