Trojan truck on forest site circa 1966
The images are courtesy of Michael Lawrence of Bankfoot whose grandfather, Sandy Rose, was Forester and Head Forester at Ledmore Forest Nursery from Nov 1949 (when land was acquired) until his retirement in 1969. In 1966 the nearby Strathord Forest was brought under his charge.
It appears that this is the local forest squad vehicle registration TXT513 registered before 1963 when the A suffix was added. The men may have been detailed to work on a bridge site clearing and assisting with the building of the concrete abutments or as in some later images clearing a stream bed for a large corrugated metal culvert.
Here the large green canvas tarpaulin with Commission lettering just visible is likely covering cement bags and sand. The cement mixer and new looking wheelbarrows are on the left ready for action.
This skyline hills are very rocky and rough and may be to the east of this location. It is possible that the area could also be in the forest areas north of Dunkeld. Can anyone identify this locality?
