Foresters Houses at Torlundy, Fort William

Date Added: 12 October 2022 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1969 Picture No: 5469

The photograph courtesy of Stephen Newsom, Aberdour, was taken by his father Geoff Newsom while working as Head Forester at Corrour Forest from 1968-1971.

The Newsom family lived in the Dorran built house on the left of the photograph and it seems they thinned out and brashed the larch trees behind to allow more early morning sunshine into the back of the building. The house on the right was that lived in by John Dunford a District Officer grade who was based at the lorry load reception office at the Corpach pulp mill. He managed all the Forestry Commission pulp deliveries to the mill.

In the background scene can be seen the hills and familiar outline of Glenloy Forest on the far side of the glen.
