Ford tractor 4x4 Forwarder at Stobhall Estate
The image is courtesy of Tam Anderson, Perth, who worked in forestry for many years. Tam says:
“I worked on three estates in Scotland, Dunecht, Dupplin and Stobhall -so most of my work was in Forestry for 50 years starting in Dye’s sawmill in Kinross at the age of 15.
This is the tractor and wood bogie that we had on Stobhall Estate ”
Can anyone say which company made this bogie with hydraulic crane?

I can say where Stobhall purchased the County tractor and wood bogie it was Smith of Acharn up near Kenmore it was myself and the estate Factor who agreed to buy it. No longer there closed years ago.

I remember as a small boy sitting in the County tractors on Dupplin Estate, mostly belonging the the Cummings family. The county in this pic is an 1174.

Dave Macintosh i worked on Dupplin estate forestry in the late seventies at that time all Forestry work was done by estate Forestry workers. I was employed to work the Yankie sawmill and wood treatment plant. At that time I worked weekends felling timber along with a lad Ian MacDonald and Jock Clarke. If I remember correctly there was eight Forestry workers on the estate. The Cummings from Glenfarg did a lot of Forestry work around Perthshire mainly through the Scottish Woodland company. Can you tell me what years are you talking about they had a Ford halftrack and a Drott with a sulkie if that’s the right spelling on the back for heavy timber. Sulkie is the name used at that time maybe there’s another name for it?

Tam. We moved to Dupplin Estate in 1981 when I was 7. As you know, Dupplin was split into two. The main castle policies and the Aberdalgie and Forteviot parts. The castle side run by "old" Lord Forteviot and the other side run by the young laird. My father was the young laird's gamekeeper for over 30 years until he retired recently. We stayed in Keepers Cottage, in the city wood. The Cummings family did all of the forestry work for many years on the Aberdalgie/Forteviot parts of the estate for the young Lord Forteviot, John Dewar. Ian MacDonald and his crew did the Castle side. Ian was a wild character whom I spent many times as a young boy in the cab of his 1174 County as he did lots of rides with the County and Bushog swipe. I remember being scared half to death as he was fearless and would be cutting on the steepest of bankings at very dangerous angles! The Cummings woodcutters included Si Gordon, James Kay and Raymond Rollo I believe. I remember the first Norcar forwarder and getting to use the crane which was two levers instead of the County 6!
