Timber Corps Ladies at Fordyce Lodge

Date Added: 28 November 2009 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1943 Picture No: 543

This photograph is courtesy of John Baillie, Garmouth and shows Timber Corps ladies Gertie Short, Alloa, at the controls of the motorcycle and Jean Charles, Huntly, on the side car. These two ladies who stayed in digs locally, worked in the office dealing with all paper work associated with wages and the felling, transporting and despatching of timber from the locality to saw mills and mines. The office was based in a lodge near Bogmuchals camp and is likely to have been Fordyce Lodge.
John recalls that Gertie Short went to work for the Control Commission in Germany for a period of time.
