Model forest nursery at Royal Highland Show
The images are courtesy of Michael Lawrence of Bankfoot whose grandfather, Sandy Rose, was Forester and Head Forester at Ledmore Forest Nursery from 1950 (when land was acquired) until his retirement in 1969.
For a number of years Sandy Rose was responsible for organising, setting up and manning a model forest nursery at the Royal Highland Show. It must have been an elaborate process to produce the model lining out and seed beds, miniature post and wire fences and nursery hedges. No doubt the nursery beds could have been sown and lined out in special boxes and dug into the ground at the show but would have required many man hours at the nursery to prepare and have ready for setting up at the event. The model buildings and machines set the scene well and no doubt was on interest to a great many visitors.
Here Sandy is sitting in a rustic garden bench, overlooking various very neatly laid out nursery beds that include some sown with oats and tares as a green crop. Even the rustic fence would have taken some time to erect.
The attached PDF is another view over the display and also shows some of the cars and lorries in the back ground which may help with estimating the date of this undated image.
