Some documents were passed on from the family of Tom A Robbie who was the Forestry Training School principal at Glentress 1947-1953 and also at Faskally 1953-1955 and thereafter in Conservancy Office appointments in Scotland. The items were brought to the attention of Forestry Memories by Mairi McGeachy, Business Support Manager, Aberfoyle Office.

A list of all the non-industrial staff in the Forestry Commission was appended to the January 1969 Staff Newsletter No 253 ‘The Slasher’. It is uncertain whether this was a regular feature but perhaps someone will confirm. At 47 pages long it is a considerable tomb and lists the staff by main departments these being:

Headquarters London,
Headquarters Basingstoke,
Headquarters Edinburgh,
Headquarters Planning and Economics,
Headquarters Work Study,
Other Outstationed Staff (Forestry Schools, Technical Training Services, Plant managers etc),
Five Conservancies and The New Forest in England,
Four Conservancies in Scotland,
Two Conservancies in Wales,
Forest Research
A list of seconded or on loan staff taking up the last page.

In all there must be over 2000 names but is important to note again that these are what was termed non-industrial staff only. The industrial staff such as forest workers, rangers, tractor drivers, road and bridge construction workers and so on (all paid weekly at this time) were not listed other than in forest pay roles and probably in Conservancy Offices. No worker lists have come to light other than the local registers maintained by Forest clerical staff to keep track of all the forest workers. Unfortunately very few of these have survived the passage of time.
