Preparing seed beds in Ledmore Forest Nursery
The images are courtesy of Michael Lawrence of Bankfoot whose grandfather, Sandy Rose, was Forester and Head Forester at Ledmore Forest Nursery from Nov 1949 (when land was acquired) until his retirement in 1969. In 1966 the nearby Strathord Forest was brought under his charge.
The photographer is unfortunately unknown but the use of colour at this early year is a little unusual. Indeed a great image of work in progress as Chalmers Thain (Jnr) operates the motorised rotavator with its offset handles. The beds have been roughly formed by tractor and some implement. Note that over to the left of Chalmers the beds have been rolled.
Any comments and additional details would be very welcome. No doubt someone will identify the rotavator make and model.
