View over Ledmore Nursery – nr Bankfoot, Perthshire

Date Added: 01 February 2022 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1957 Picture No: 5304

The images are courtesy of Michael of Bankfoot whose grandfather, Sandy Rose, was Forester and Head Forester at Ledmore Forest Nursery from Nov 1949 (when land was acquired) until his retirement in 1969. In 1966 the nearby Strathord Forest was brought under his charge.

This low sunlight view covers a substantial portion of the nursery and gives a good indication of its layout with several sheds for storage and shelters for workers. In the middle distance right of the centre may be the Ledmore Forest Office appearing behind some rising ground. There is a tall chimney directly in line behind probably on a nearby farm steading. The year of the photograph is unknown and estimated as 1957.

The PDF below has two other views of the nursery. Any comments and further details would be very welcome.

Would I be right in thinking that this nursery had something to do with the Ledmore plough? Comment left on 02 February 2022 at 19:11 by Leslie Phillip
