Native and Broadleaved Woodland Photographs 1987 – 1992
Donald Beaton arrived at Dornoch Forest District circa 1985 as District Forester in charge of Standing Sales (small programme then), Private Woodlands and Nursery. A keen photographer, he produced a number of photographic albums one of which was Timber Harvesting Machinery in the district during the period 1987 -1992 period. He also included in the same album, photographs of some of the native and broadleaved woodlands in Caithness and Sutherland. The album is reproduced here in 3 PDF files attached to Photograph Image Nos 525, 526 and 527.
The broadleaved woods include Gunn’s Wood, Ackergill, Achvarasdal House, Barrogill, Spinningdale, Altass and the native pine areas of Amat, Scron na Croiche and Einig. Species highlighted include beech, aspen, birch, laburnum, oak, native Scots pine and European larch.
Photographs are courtesy of North Highland Forest District, Golspie where staff found and retained the albums during the clearing out of the old Dornoch office.
