Blackhall Forest – Forest Design Plan 1991

An example of the very early formal forest planning documentation (then called Forest Design Plans) that was adopted by the Forest Enterprise for its woodlands. This particular example may well have been drawn up by the forest landscape designers based in Sylvan House, Edinburgh.
Shown in the (degraded quality) image are the timing sequence, locations shape and size of the proposed clear felling areas within the forest over a period of 30-40 years. The plans were submitted for consultation to various organisations and authorities and also presented at special meetings in the local communities. The outcomes from this process were all part and parcel of the then new approval process sought for the plans from the Forestry Authority – the regularity part of the Forestry Commission.
