Close up View of Alex MacLarty Mounder mechanism
The image is from a photograph collection that was originally stored at Kincardine Forest District.
Unfortunately the photograph does not show the faces of the people in the background.
The close view of the mounder depicts some of the well engineered, robust but complex mechanisms which hold the self rotating discs, each of which is fitted with three dished digging spades.
Each disc assembly is attached to a hinged articulated arm which has a hydraulic ram linked in to raise and lower the disc arms. The rams will also create downward pressure on the discs forcing the digging spades into the ground.
The disc assemblies and arms look somewhat like the early Swedish Bracke or Donaren felling site cultivator arms that have been fitted onto a locally made frame with traditional forest plough wheels.
Can anyone describe the origins and details of this interesting machine?
