Forest Research – Glenbranter Forest Trial of various Eucalyptus species – Planted 1981
The pages of the experiment are courtesy of Richard Siddons, Wales who worked in Glenbranter for a short period.
The trial at Glenbranter was surprisingly quite late in Forest Research programme being in 1981 but it turns out that the two plots were initially planted with Eucalypts back in 1966. None of these trees had survived and one of the first preparatory jobs was clearing the dead trees.
Two Eucalypt species are listed (E. Delegatensis and E nitens ) but with seed collected from many different locations in Australia and one from Kilmun.

In response to Norman's wondering if the experiment still exists, I had a look on Google maps and indeed there appears to be a broadleaved canopy over the area delineated on the experiment map. Whether these are living or dead eucalypts is not easy to distinguish. I will try and publish a 'print' of the Google map image for 2021, but may not have the correct technique!

There are two areas where we have seen eucalyptus at glenbranter and wondered how they got there. There are more than 20 mature and healthy looking trees across the two plots. They can be seen easily if you follow the mountain bike trails
