This image shows Myra in a new office mainly used for Moray Forest District administrative and forester staff. Details not certain but Forest Research office, attached to this office may have been built at the same time.
Myra may be working on the weekly Industrial staff payroll system which was all done locally at the time with insurance , tax and earnings all worked out by the admin staff on multiple copy payroll sheets. The mechanical adding machine which could add (and also subtract and other functions) keyed in figures was a significant step forward and eased the task of manually totalling all the cash columns. The print out provided a list to double check against the original columns to ensure accuracy of keyed entry. This model may have an electrically activated motor to turn all the internal cogs such as on the Olivetti Multi Summa. Earlier types were all mechanical and each entry had to be followed by a crank of the side handle. Amazingly robust mechanisms.
