Ratagan Forest Cash Account Ledger June 1939 - May 1941
The forest wartime cash account in the ledger was subsequently used as a workers’ register. However the document cash entries do reveal one or two interesting points.
The total wage bill per two week period amounts to less than £10 pounds and indicates that only two or three workers were employed at this time.
Mr Macrae may well have been the forest trapper and received a working dog allowance of 10 shillings per month.
Mr Macrae stayed in the forest bothy and was charged 10 shillings per month.
The cash imprest to with draw cash from the bank was received from the Divisional Officer.
The last page indicates an inspection event whereby the page was signed off as Certified Correct by A M Fraser (District Officer) on 6/6/41. He was in post there from 1939 until after the war. Please see the PDF below for a view of all the pages.
The correction has been initialled as WM and most likely W (William) Murray who was head Forester and retained an overview of Inverinate, Ratagan and Glenshiel Forests. It seems Eilanreach Forest was not under his over view.
The Mr Macrae mentioned as receiving the Dog Allowance and staying in the Bothy may well be Gordon MacRae who was a long term employee who started in 1939 and moved up the Wildlife Ranger Grades.
