Photograph courtesy of Jean Christie but unfortunately Jack had not written names on the photograph. Jack is featured in the front row and it seems was the gold medallist for that year.

John Keenleyside, Forres, stepped into help and was able to name many of the individuals and with the help of some of his colleagues added even more names to the list.
The numbers refer to the larger photograph image which has numbers added to aid identification.

John Keenleyside goes on to say:
‘Other names in this class were: Alfie Weir (not there - possibly ill at the time - He had to repeat the second year with the 51-53 class and is in that photo. His father was the first head forester in charge of Keilder), John Goodall and Ted Saunders also not in this photograph.
John Goodall ended up with the National Coal Board in Northumberland and Durham afforestating open cast pit sites.
Tom Robbie head of School is not in picture or Mr Robertson second in command in 1952. He was an Ex RAF Bader type with a tin leg but a very fine fellow lived in Peebles.
The ones initially posted to North Scotland Conservancy were Ron Evans, Frank Sutherland, George Sutherland, Ted Saunders, Tim Taylor and John Patience (who latterly ended up in the post office in Broadford where I visited him once). George Sutherland went to private forestry at Fairburn, (Muir of Ord) where he served for many years.’

Further comments on the photograph and details of the people would be very welcome.

Hi my brother and I were brought up in some of the best playgrounds you could ever wish for as kids, being the sons of Ron Evans (No6 back row in the picture). Sadly Dad passed away last week aged 90yrs on Friday 13th 2017. We were in various locations through the north of Scotland , Lairg Morangie Faragaig Glengary, Bonar Bridge, his final posting with the Commission was crop assessment based in Banchory. Bonar bridge was the Shin forest and as Ron says we had some great locations and also enjoyed various activities including being taken on board the large caterpillar tractors as they were pulling the Cuthbertson ploughs prior to planting ( health and safety would have field day these days)I also remember the first incidents of white finger that some of the old tree fellers got due to early power saws not having any vibration suppressors (pioneer saws)Happy days Comment left on 20 January 2017 at 10:19 by Callum Evans
My father, Bill Duggie (no. 23 in the photograph) moved to Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia) in 1954, where he worked for the Forestry Commission until 1989. He died in January 2018. Comment left on 15 April 2021 at 14:21 by Fiona McDonald
