Sustainable containers for fish – wooden fish boxes
The image is from a collection of slides and photographs ‘rescued from the skip’ and handed to Forestry Memories. Generally very little information with or about them and for details we will have to rely on readers’ memories or geographical knowledge.
The name Irvin points to a Scottish fish processor/merchant but the glimpse of the port though the gap is hardly enough to identify the location.
Very significant quantities of wood were processed and made into fish boxes and barrels by sawmills in northeast Scotland over a great many decades. The boxes had quite a limited life span and one must reflect on how the products of oil took over the market and also what then happens when oil products are no longer used.
Any ideas of location very welcome.
