Mobile sawmill set up at Kirkney, Clashindarroch Forest near Huntly
The image is from a collection of slides and photographs ‘rescued from the skip’ and handed to Forestry Memories. Generally very little information with or about them and for details we will have to rely on readers’ memories or geographical knowledge.
This is a coloured version of the image shown in Picture No 219 on this website. Believed to be one of Riddoch’s of Rothiemay sawmill units with the tractor belt driven main bench in building in the middle of the sawn timber piles. The main saw miller may have been Gordon Smith from Cairnie who went on to work in the new Kinnoir sawmill.
This must have been about the very last of the mobile saw bench set ups in Aberdeenshire.
Any more details and comments very welcome.
