Ploughing in a burnt young forest plantation

The image is from a collection of slides and photographs ‘rescued from the skip’ and handed to Forestry Memories. Generally very little information with or about them and for details we will have to rely on readers’ memories or geographical knowledge.

This image could be in the Rannoch area but that is conjecture. It appears to be an International Tractor pulling a double furrow peat plough (D60) and could be operated by Jimmy (Jinks) Sangster.

It looks as though the senior forester is checking on the feasibility of getting tree planting positions and access for the planters along the furrow bottom.

Any suggestions as to the names of the three people featured and the location?

If it’s Rannoch, there was a fire in the Barracks section in the early 1980’s and it was a struggle to get it restocked. An unseasonable snowstorm led to the guard’s van stove being lit and a spark from the railway spread the fire into the forest. Comment left on 09 October 2022 at 13:57 by Wilma Harper

There was also a fire at Rannoch mentioned in the 79-80 Annual Report. Before my time.

The gentleman on the left, with his back to the camera, looks like Arthur Cuthbert, who was District Officer in Perth at that time.
