Use of Gabian baskets to stabilise soil slopes
The image is from a collection of slides and photographs ‘rescued from the skip’ and handed to Forestry Memories. Generally very little information with or about them and for details we will have to rely on readers’ memories or geographical knowledge.
Location and year is unknown but the actual casket wire material seems very light as it does not show up on the slide. Some early versions used by the Forestry Commission engineers were made with quite light hexagonal mesh wire net similar in profile but a little heavier than the old fashioned sheep net.
Can anyone recall the earliest examples of their use in forestry works?
