Lining out Sitka spruce with boards and Ledmore plough
The image is from a collection of slides and photographs ‘rescued from the skip’ and handed to Forestry Memories. Generally very little information with or about them and for details we will have to rely on readers’ memories or geographical knowledge.
Forest nursery worker is holding the lining out board vertical with his foot and preventing it moving as the Ledmore plough passes close by covering all the roots with a firm covering of soil. The next soil bench and its vertical face ready for the next set of tree filled boards can just be seen behind the worker’s foot. The two men with the spades or shovels are tiding up the start of the next row and the vertical face of the soil bench. The lady is probably waiting to unhinge and pick up the lining out board as soon as the tractor has moved further down the line. The board will have to be filled and readied for the next line.
Does anyone know any of the workers or nursery location? See last and next images.
June 2022 - Mike Lawrence has confirmed the location as Ledmore nursery and the tractor driver as Stewart Paterson. This is a better version of the same image as shown in Picture No 835.
