The image is from a collection of slides and photographs ‘rescued from the skip’ and handed to Forestry Memories. Generally very little information with or about them and for details we will have to rely on readers’ memories or geographical knowledge.

Lovely image of a forest nursery team working on a nice sunny day lining out Sitka spruce using lining out boards. The Ferguson tractor is pulling a Ledmore type lining out plough firming the soil against the roots of the trees in the board and at the same time cutting the trench face for the next set of tree filled boards.

Note the trestles and there shelters where some of the workers are filling the boards with trees. Traditionally women were often employed for this job as their more nimble fingers and dexterity filled the boards with trees more quickly and accurately. In fact some can be seen waiting for the boards to be lifted after the plough passes.

This image and the two following are from the same location – can anyone identify it?

June 2022 - Mike Lawrence has confirmed that the location is Ledmore Nursery.
